Freedom from pornography:
Making the Internet a safe place for you and your family

Dear Friends,

It has been rightly said that integrity is what you are when nobody’s looking. However, it’s when nobody’s looking that the devil tends to attack us the hardest. And one area where the devil attacks Christians continually today is on the hidden battleground of the Internet. As Charles Swindoll writes, “Knowing how pervasive and insidious this temptation really is requires me to stay alert and ready.”  Many Christian lives and families are destroyed through pornography on the Internet. For this reason, it is very important to take steps to keep the Internet as safe as possible for you and your family.

The following are some suggestions that can help:

1)    Find positive Christian resources for you and your family

There are many resources on the Internet that can be healthy for you and your family. It can be helpful to list several of them on your list of favorites and to encourage yourself and your family to visit sites that are beneficial to your spiritual growth.

This website is a resource made available by Chris Lewis and Nothing Is Impossible Ministries for Christians worldwide. The site will keep you up to date on the ministry of Chris Lewis and his colleagues on the mission field around the world, but it will do more than that. It will also link you to helpful resources that can make the Internet a positive spiritual influence for you and your family.

2)    Take steps to keep filth off your screen

Download an effective filterlink software that will effectively block Internet porn before it enters your home or office. Bsafe Online’s web filterlink is one that comes highly recommended. Check it out at www.bsafehome.com

3)    Seek proactive accountability

One step that many have found helpful is to find an accountability partner they can talk to regularly who will help keep them accountable in these areas. However, an accountability partner can in some instances become nothing more than an evangelical substitute for the confessional, in which someone confesses his/her sin to someone, receives a feeling of absolution, and then continues with the same behaviour. For this reason, accountability partners need to be encouraged to find ways to encourage proactive steps toward victory over weaknesses.
One tool that can help to add teeth to real life accountability is a program that is offered through Bsafe Online’s software. It is an online “buddy system” in which you enter an active accountability relationship with a partner of your own choice. That person is given access to your online activity, and you are in turn given access to theirs. That way, you and your partner can quickly scan what the other has been watching at any time. Knowing that someone is going to hold you accountable in this way can be a strong help in resisting temptation. This information can also be found at www.bsafehome.com

4)    If you are already in bondage, don’t  be afraid to seek counsel

Because of the social stigma often associated with sexual sins, many Christians are so overcome with a feeling of shame that they are afraid to speak to anyone about it. However, the devil’s lies only lose power in our lives once we take the step of speaking them out. The enemy wants you to keep quiet, but the reality is that you need to turn to someone who can give you wise counsel.

In some cases, you may know of a mature Christian you can turn to for help. It may be a pastor or a Christian counsellor. In other cases, however, you may not know who to turn to. If you need help, please don’t be afraid to contact this ministry. We will be happy to respond to your questions and to help you find more counsel if needed. Any communications received will be treated with absolute confidentiality. Feel free to contact us at prayer@nothingisimpossible.co.uk
There is also an online workshop designed to help men overcome pornography and other sex-related addictions. If this is something that might be helpful to you or someone close to you, please check it out at www.pureonline.com.

Friends, the stakes are too high. As the Bible says, “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8b) Don’t let him have a foothold in your life or in your family. Don’t let him devour your Christian witness or your spiritual power. Say no to temptation, and take steps to back that no with action.

Yours in Christ’s love,

Christopher Lewis
